Before The Recall, Dangerous Side Effects of Darvon Already Known
It is natural to file a Darvon lawsuit after knowing that the drugs Darvon and Darvocet are anything but health threats. Darvon is the brand name of propoxyphene, a drug classified as an analgesic, and so physicians prescribe this to patients who experience mild to moderate pain. After the Food and Drug Administration in the United States urged for a recall of this medication, Xanodyne Pharmaceutical, Inc, to date, was the first to withdraw theirs from the market. Xanodyne, in fact, is the manufacturer of both Darvon and Darvocet. However, there are strong allegations that the company has already known
of the adverse effects associated with Darvon, years before they even withdrew the drug from the market.
When Darvocet was released in the US market last 1972, researchers found out that propoxyphene was quite ineffective at pain management, compared to aspirin. To maximize the therapeutic effect, patients prescribed with propoxyphene may increase the dosage. Since its margin of safety is rather narrow, cardiac toxicity and other heart problems, such as arrhythmias, may occur. Sudden death may be the gravest complication associated with Darvon use. Other symptoms associated with propoxyphene include dizziness, unconsciousness, chest pain, difficulty in breathing and allergic reactions. These drug-induced symptoms, of course, vary with every individual, and anyone with a pre-existing heart condition is probably at higher risk of developing even more complications. Those with a history of depression and mental and/or emotional disturbances should not take the drug, because propoxyphene is a strong narcotic agent.
You take medications because you seek effective treatment. Unfortunately, some medications do not live up to this. Clearly, taking Darvon is very risky. To file a Darvon lawsuit after experiencing the adverse effects is understandable, and even advisable. This is a smart move in your part, because you can claim compensation for the damages that the drug has caused.
